Will anyone believe me if I tell you I have 11 non-biological brothers? … Nah, I don’t think so. However, what if I tell you that it’s true? What if I tell you that I actually DO have 11 non-biological brothers? No, they are not adopted, nor were they even conceived by my mother because as I have mentioned earlier, they are all non-biological. So now, I’m guessing you’re still thinking how is it insanely possible for me to have 11 non-biological brothers if they were not even adopted?
I am willing to bet that even those who knew me well enough will be flabbergasted and even ask how in the world did she have 11 non-biological brothers? Why? To give you a bit of information, I have 2 siblings, a younger brother and a younger sister, and those who know my family well enough knows I do not have 11 extra siblings.
So who in the world are the 11 non-biological brothers I am talking about? I don’t want to confuse your minds anymore so here goes. Their names are Losers, Animo, Team Ateneo, Leap of Faith, AMAZON, I Am Number Ten, Baby Baluga, Team Celtics, SHARKS, Air Ball Bounce Back, and 11th Seed Shock. Before you say “What kind of names are these? She must be joking!” For the record, I am not joking, it’s just that I don’t want to reveal their identity just yet so that I can keep the suspense going, thus I am using their pen names. But keep on reading, as I may drop some clues that may reveal their identities.
I have met these 11 men thru Fantasy Sports, to be more specific, NBA Fantasy Sports. Yes, I am an avid NBA fanatic, and am addicted to playing NBA Fantasy Sports. I joined the league about 2 years ago, consisted of 12 members, 11 men and me, the only girl in the league, and have been playing this game for 3 years now. My ultimate goal in this game is to beat all 11 men and take the number one spot, and become champion! YEY! But…this still remains to be a dream, unless I win this years’ league, and beat the 2 time champion Losers. Oh and did I mention, the winner gets to have free burger meal courtesy of the last 3 losing teams? Therefore, it will be really swell if I get to win and be the champion for this season! But, to my despair, I won 2nd place. Well it’s better than last place.
When I first joined the league, 10 of these 11 men didn’t know who I was, plus they didn’t even know I was a girl. Since we use pen names, it was hard for them to trace my identity, to the point that I even heard some of them at Church asking Losers, “Who is phx020808?” I have to admit; it was fun making them guess who I was, though they know me personally in Church, none of them expected that a girl like me would join a league full of men and to be an avid NBA fanatic. Of course eventually, my identity wasn’t much of a secret anymore.
Now why am I wasting your time reading this when I’m supposed to write about relationships with people in our Church and not about the 11 men who I play NBA Fantasy Sports with? Technically speaking I am not wasting your time, at first I did, but, I have found a connection between Relationship with People in Church and NBA Fantasy Sports, and that is FELLOWSHIP. “What fellowship? NBA and Church do not go along together.” Well that’s were your wrong. Took me a lot of weeks and time though to find a connection between those two so here goes.
To be frank, I never thought of even finding a connection between the two. Let’s face it, internet games and religion is not even a valid equation to build a fellowship, a Christian Fellowship even. However in the almost 3 years of playing with fellow church-mates, I found a connection. You see, before I started playing Fantasy Sports, I really don’t talk to these 11 men, well except for Losers, Baby Baluga, Leap of Faith, and Air Ball Bounce Back, as if we’ve known each other for years. This “game” eventually led me to be close to the remaining 7 men, and whenever we see each other nowadays, we would talk, tease each other, and even joke around, sometimes resulting to friendly pranks. From there we didn’t even notice that we we’re already building a fellowship, a fellowship that doesn’t only talk about sports but also a fellowship that rely on each other and on God.
In my opinion, fellowship doesn’t necessarily need to start inside the Church. In fact, it can start outside the Church through other means, like Fantasy Sports which is an internet based game. People bond in different ways, some find fellowship in ministries, while some find fellowship in other activities, but mind you, the fellowship I am talking about is a fellowship built in order to glorify God. Our fellowship through Fantasy Sports does not really restrict us to only talk about sports, we also talk about other things, and some even would post messages asking for prayers, thus giving me the conclusion that religion and other things can establish a fellowship.
My 11 non-biological brothers in Christ helped me realized all of these things. Our fellowship helped us bond more with one another and build a much stronger friendship despite the age gap and marital status, oh and gender as well. Though we may not see each other every Sunday to have small chats, we do talk through Fantasy Sports’ Message Boards. With this I realized how God makes a way for people to meet and have fellowship with one another. Fantasy Sports may be an odd way for some of you to have fellowship, but for us, it’s a normal and fun way to have fellowship. I mean, who would have fun? You get to play, win an internet trophy, you get to eat burgers, plus have fellowship along the way!
And now, to stop making you wonder who my 11 non-biological brothers are, below are their
