Jubilee Evangelical Church (JEC) started out as a gospel center. An offshoot of the sowing & planting effort by the mission oriented members of the United Evangelical Church of the Philippines (UECP). From a very small gathering place in Echague, Quiapo; the new mission field rapidly increased in members in regular bible study classes.
Mainly concentrating on a swelling Chinese population that barely knew that a loving God exists, the early leaders of the gospel center were confronted with problems of all sorts. The pains and hardships of growing were severely felt.
Finances were low, leaders and co-workers were few, meeting place was not very suitable. But to trust in the Lord totally without reservation was their motto. And so the One whom they put their trust upon did one miracle after another to the amazement of people witnessing them.
God provided all their needs. And truly, He opened windows so wide that all can see the wonders of His works. A house & lot was acquired as the second home for this young and active group of believers. It was very near the Malacanang Palace, located at Matienza Street in San Miguel, Manila.
JEC, the 7th daughter church established by the UECP, was inaugurated on January 20, 1963 and christened “Jubilee” in commemoration of the 25th (Silver Jubilee) Anniversary of the UECP-Evangelistic Band.
The following years saw the blossoming of Jubilee Evangelical Church into a potent and influential channel of evangelism & discipleship. It ventured into the field of education with the establishment of Jubilee Christian Elementary School in 1967.
In 1972, Martial Law was declared. Moving in and out of the San Miguel area where the Church was located became restricted. Members had to walk through long stretches in order to attend Sunday Worship Services and fellowships. The Board of Elders & Deacons realized that this major problem will hamper the continuous growth of the church and decided to look for an alternative site. Earnest intercessions and prayers were offered to the Lord for proper guidance and wisdom.
Finally, a new site was found within a residential district in New Manila, Quezon City. The entire church obeyed the leading of the Almighty God and work as one body. The whole congregation was constantly blessed during that long span of time working together.
New leaders were discovered. Hidden talents unearthed and bonds of friendships were strengthened. And the fruit of its labor was finally harvested in the year 1982 when the new sanctuary was officially dedicated to the Lord.
This marvelous piece of human creation is a significant testimony of how the Lord has been true and faithful to His people. Truly, Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of Jubilee Evangelical Church.
