How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord Almighty! Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked... For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor.
Psalm 84

Mighty to Save

Posted on by JEC

As much as we hate to admit it, the first thing that comes to mind, at least to most of us, when we hear the word Easter is either a basket of colored eggs, or a white bunny.  However, there’s more to Easter than egg hunts. And that one thing which makes Easter so special a Sunday, is what we celebrated about last April 24, 2011.

Christ’s Resurrection

The significance of Christ’s resurrection lies in its ability to strengthen our faith and renew our hopes. His redemptive narrative assures us that He is indeed the Son of God – holy, majestic and powerful, and that He has made salvation possible for us sinners.

In remembering this great promise, the Easter Sunrise Worship Service this year had a two-fold objective – to impart the personal and spiritual value of Easter to the congregation, and to move them to action with such a message. Hence, after an early breakfast, the members of the congregation were welcomed in the Main Sanctuary for a special Easter program.

Patterned after the themes found in the Gospel bracelet, which also happens to be the souvenir for Sunrise attendees, the program started with a narration of God’s creation (represented by the yellow bead in the bracelet) and then afterwards, a skit focusing on the fall of man because of sin (black bead). This was followed by an anthem by the Church Choir, which talked about Jesus’ suffering on the cross to restore us (red bead), and a short video documentary of an ex-inmate who have found peace and hope through Christ’s purification (white bead). Meanwhile, Pastor Paul Calamiong, the speaker, reminded the congregation about the call of Easter – to Engage in prayer, to Abandon worldly pursuits, to be Single-minded, to pass the Test of faith, to set Eternal goals, and to Rely on His Words. And finally, J-Zone leader and CCF member Bryan Paolo Lao gave a personal testimony on his growth as a Christian who has been saved by Jesus (green bead). To close out the celebration, the Praise and Worship Team led the congregation in singing Mighty to Save, to glorify Him who died on the cross but rose from the dead, out of His love for us.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…
